Deadline at Dawn is a 1944 novel written by American crime writer Cornell Woolrich, who used the pseudonym William Irish. The story centers on Bricky, a jaded ten-cents-a-dance girl disillusioned with life in New York City. Despite her unhappiness, she is too afraid to admit failure and return to her small-town home in Iowa. The novel explores themes of existential angst. Bricky and another character, lost in a soulless city, seek redemption. They hope for a fresh start. Their journey is filled with tension and uncertainty. The city's harsh realities push them to their limits. Through their struggles, they confront their deepest fears. The novel portrays their desperate quest for a new life.
