Phantom Lady is a 1942 crime novel by American author Cornell Woolrich, who used the pseudonym William Irish. It marks the first novel Woolrich published under this pseudonym. The story revolves around a man accused and convicted of murdering his wife. As his execution date looms, his friends become desperate to prove his innocence. They team up with a sympathetic detective to find his alibi. This alibi is a woman he had taken to a Broadway show on the night of the murder. Despite their efforts, none of the witnesses remember the woman. The search becomes increasingly frantic and tense. Every lead they follow seems to hit a dead end. Time is running out, and the stakes couldn't be higher. Their quest for the elusive woman becomes a race against the clock.
